Sears Home Improvement Products And Services Offers Room For Growth

Published: Oct 2, 2005

From vinyl siding to kitchen remodeling, replacement windows to heating and cooling products, Sears Home Improvement Products and Services provides sales and installation as a wholly owned subsidiary of the retail giant. The Tampa office is looking for employees in a range of positions, and national sourcing manager Clint Lautenschleger says the need for workers is ongoing.

“We’re always recruiting,” Lautenschleger continues. “Locally, we have three main departments: the sales division, our installation subcontractors and in-store marketing associates.”

Energetic, self-efficient candidates are the highest priority in the sales arena. Although in-home sales experience is an asset, the company values drive and enthusiasm above all.

“Our sales reps across the country have the potential to earn a significant amount of money,” Lautenschleger says, “as high as six figures in some markets. Those associates are tremendously motivated and don’t mind making sacrifices in order to reach that goal.”

Candidates must have their own transportation to visit clients, and occasionally the position requires evening and weekend hours. Experience is necessary for workers in the installation division, comprising independent contractors who provide their own tools and transportation.

“Our installers come to us ready to roll,” says Lautenschleger, “and we typically begin assigning jobs within a week. Independent contractor candidates must come to us with at least one year of installation experience.” In-store marketing associates generate leads for the Sears sales team by approaching customers in the retail environment to introduce them to Home Improvement Products and Services.

“These employees need to be people who are not afraid to walk up to a shopper and start talking,” Lautenschleger explains. “They market our products, but they’re not selling. They should be confident and personable.”

No experience is necessary, and scheduling opportunities are flexible in both part-time and full-time positions.

With more than 60 offices throughout 35 states, Sears Home Improvement Products and Services offers room for advancement and growth. Among the sales division, for instance, managers are hired exclusively from within the ranks of associates, guaranteeing that each person in a supervisory position has the practical experience necessary to lead a successful team.

“We refrain from hiring someone just on the basis of business sense,” Lautenschleger says. “They need to have an innate understanding of our business, and that requires ground-level experience.”

Benefits for full-time employees include a full package of medical, dental and vision coverage, plus a 401(k) program and paid time off for holidays and vacations. Sears employees also receive an in-store discount.

The Tampa headquarters for Sears Home Improvement Products and Services is near the Florida State Fairgrounds.
